It is cold and dreary and happily it is almost time for our annual post holiday girl’s lunch. To combat the grey blahs I selected an outfit which, I think anyway, is fuchsia perfection. This color cuts right through hum drum. It is a color I don’t have much of but boy do I feel sassy when I wear it. Fuchsia perfection with a dash of Hermes!
Usually if I am going to wear a scarf (which is pretty much always) I start building my outfit there. This time around (because I was set on this gorgeous fuchsia color) I started with the dress. The color leapt out of the closet and nearly knocked me over. Easy choice. This Diane von Fursentberg marchona dress has such a cute zipper detail on the shoulder. Fashionable but so darn easy to wear. It is wool and has stretch and so it feels like a warm hug. I find the stretch and slight wrap so flattering with the right foundation garment (insert Spanx love here)!
Next came the scarf. One of my favorite Hermes choices is “Le Songe de la Licorne” (translated The Dream of the Unicorn). I’m not sure what the name has to do with the design. It does have unicorn heads on it but it is a series of belts draped across the surface. Perhaps the unicorns are dreaming about belts which is something which could only happen in the Hermes universe. This is a fairly recent Annie Faivre design having been released in the spring of 2013. There are some wonderful colorways out there in this design but this one was me. Black, fuchsia and nice big dollop of apple green. I especially like the various shades of silvery grey. Very chic and versatile. I usually spend a great deal of time deciding on a scarf (they are very expensive after all). Lots of trying on and tying in various ways. Not so with this beauty. I knew before the sales associate even removed it from the case I had found a silky soulmate. It has become one of my most worn treasures.
Rather than select a more traditional black coat I selected a winter white Tory Burch double breasted coat. I really wanted to keep things light and bright and black just didn’t seem right (and I adore the gold buttons which almost look like jewelry). I love the shock of fuchsia as it peeks out when the coat is open.
I finished it off with adorable little patent pumps. I just love that jaunty strap don’t you? It is far enough down the shoe that it does not cut off the leg at the ankle (longer legs, yes please). But of course you can’t ever go wrong with Manalo Blahniks. His shoes make everything look just right.
Classic finishing touches include a Delvaux bag, Chanel cuff and hoop earrings.
In the composite photo I added a little “wish I had” treasure. That adorable Chanel cuff. I love it. I mean, I really, really, love it. But much to my chagrin I do not own it. It would be perfection with this dress but I really have trouble with the bigger bracelets and cuffs. My wrists are narrow and the proportions just don’t work for me. I know, cry me a river. But it sure looks great with the dress.
FYI, the dream cuff is for sale on a fantastic site called The Real Real. It is a online designer consignment store. Does it sound like I am an affiliate? Nope. Just a happy customer. Even if you aren’t interested in buying anything it is so fun to browse and see all the loveliness. They even carry art…Matisse anyone?
What kind of burst of color will you add you to your day?
